Owning the DLC does not exclude you from playing against others online, even if they don’t own the DLC, or vice versa.

Included in the Yulan DLC is a new Tale that tells an epic story across three connected maps. Discover how the forgotten lands of Yulan once more come into contact with the rest of the known factions. Follow the House of Sheng and their Wielders as they have to adapt to the dangers they unknowingly unleash.

One large, two medium and two small Conquest maps are also included in the Yulan DLC, designed for playing with Yulan. Will you try your hand at fighting the old conflict of the houses, invading the island of Arleon, or defending the homelands of Yulan?

Five of the eight troops in the Yulan faction are house troops. When you upgrade their dwellings, you must choose which house they belong to. Li is the House of Order, Sheng is the House of Creation, and Xuan is the House of Arcana. The houses not only grant different Essences, but their troops also gain different abilities and stats.

• The lowly Conscript exchanges its peasant clothing for the colors of the houses as it brings its spear to the front lines.

• Three new unit types hail from the C. explodens species of ants, native to Southeast Asia. While their workers don’t have any special abilities, their regular soldiers are able to explosively sacrifice themselves to damage enemies around them, slowing them down momentarily. Upgrades allow the soldier to cause more damage, reach a wider radius, take advantage of chain explosions to cause more damage, or leave behind a pool of liquid that causes damage to enemies walking through it. Meanwhile, their major soldiers take reduced damage when attacked from the front, able to hunker down and become stationary while increasing armour of nearby allies.

• Two new unit types from the N. taracua species of termites bring a new soldier (able to use asymmetric snapping to deal a great amount of damage to the enemy underground, or stun opponents on the surface while flinging themselves away from harm), alongside a new worker that develops the ability to explode if kept alive for long enough. Just like their real-world counterparts, these termite workers develop spots on their abdomen that contain blue laccase – an enzyme that reacts violently during autothysis to create a toxic mixture. This means that, while they can’t explode immediately after birth, their explosions become more dangerous the longer they’ve been kept alive. These workers can be upgraded to mature their explosive capabilities more quickly, to improve the rate at which their explosion causes more damage, or to keep that damage or resulting confusion persisting over a longer period of time after explosion.

• Two new levels inspired by the main campaign featuring the new exploding ants and termites -- return to The Harvest to eradicate a colony of fire ants, and revisit the rainforests of the Front Line in the hopes of surviving several nights of battle.

The deities have shunned the Vollings, and they have turned to paganism to survive. But Vollings are resilient and ever industrious. One lord has embarked on an enterprise to settle an island long abandoned by its dead civilization, braving a cursed land in hopes of farming a lucrative spice grown only on its hillsides.

His venture is a success, but trouble quickly presses fast upon him from many sides. As he is leaving to sail out to defend his fields from a jealous neighbor, he has received word that every inhabitant of one of his farm holds has vanished without a trace. With few options at hand, he calls on his guards for four volunteers to venture across the island to investigate this mystery.

Party-based adventure

Explore the island of Invimona in this open-world adventure with four generated companions. Depending on the stats given to them they'll each have unique choices in dialogue with NPCs and amongst each other as they bond over the course of the journey. You're assigned a pack-boro for your mission, who can carry a boat as well as extra items you pick up along the way, and together you all can hike and portage around the Invimona rivers and sea.

Visit towns for clues and to stock your party with unique items. As a guard you will be asked for assistance as you meet various farmers, scribes, artisans and even Gadaars among the holds. In the five years since the island was settled, grave robbers have flocked to Invimona like vultures, and ensuring they find their way to Exile Island is a constant battle.

There is no auto-compass or quest logs for you in Banquet for Fools, though many quests and requests are given to you in scrolls. Navigating the island effectively is a part of the challenge of quests.

Banquet for Fools features brawl-style, beat-em-up combat. When your action bar fills, you can pause the game by opening your combat dome, and choose an action and/or target within the dome. Play as one guard at a time, while the others will continue to attack, defend, kick, charge and pin at will. You can switch leaders at any time or tap in a support guard for combo attacks - working together is key to success.

If enemy combatants are too heavily defended, use a critical attack to weaken that enemy for follow up attacks for your companions, or add your attacks together when you unlock Rally attacks during combat to strike simultaneously!

Equip your four companions you've created with a variety of skills to overcome the challenges your adventure will take you through. Choose favored weapons, armor, pagan spells, animal binding, music and rogue abilities and level them up with experience or with buying training from individuals you meet around the island. Skills used most are granted bonuses to get more powerful with level ups.

When a character accrues enough XP they can choose to level up their skills and a stat point. You have 3 points to distribute into any of the skills you wish to pursue, and skills you’ve used frequently during the interim of the last level up are granted bonus points if you advance them.

Though the Volling have entered a pagan age, their ancient deities still listen through their likeness in stone, and perhaps if they find the speakers worthy, speak back...

Asking for intercessions from these beings grants Vollings the ability to make custom holy items uniquely tailored to those favored, but these boons come with a required donation and completion of a quest to deem yourself worthy. These beings are petty gods, and competitive, so choose your statues wisely. Find ancient and newly erected statues around the island with various powers to bestow, and bless new intercessions with even more powerful versions as you advance.

Configure your musical setlist during combat by buying songs with situational auto-procing and potency levels. Songs can proc at the start of a battle, after an enemy is fallen, when companions are low on health, and a myriad of options between! You can memorize a limited amount of songs at once with different power levels, so choose which songs are heaviest and when they’ll occur to compliment your playstyle and party composition.

Learn unique spell effects from different Vol trees, then make a custom spell of your choosing by taking its birch and etch your rune in blood to communicate this tether with the world. Create more powerful variants as you grow in power during the course of your travels. There are three Pagan skills: Fauna, Vines, and Spores, each with different specialties and application to the world.

A wily party knows when to keep the law they're employed to uphold, when to bend it, and when breaking it is the best course of action. Items can be stolen from shops, but at the cost of not being able to be purchased again, and getting caught is always a risk. Guards and merchants follow patrols and sleep schedules, so keeping tabs on your surroundings and waiting for the changing of the guard is a ripe opportunity.

Committing crimes will accrue a price on your head, and the Vollings of the villages will treat you accordingly. You can always pay off a local bounty by yelling bribe.

Running out of arrows mid-dungeon? Stuck on an island with Padurii children hiding in every tree and low on explosive elyxirs? Having a field kit in your inventory allows a party to re-supply while away from shops during hikes across the island. The field kit allows you to assemble ammunition for three types of categories: arrows, rivi-wraps, and globes.

Arrows come from finding wood pieces and various types of arrow heads from wildlife, rivi-wraps are crafted from noxious and volatile foliage in crevices, and you can convert amphoras of alcohol from healing items into explosive elyxirs globes with various added effects.

The Pavura requests that instead of being executed, criminals be shipped off to a husk of a rock just north of his garrison which the locals call Exile Island. The local ghost population is haunting enough, and the ethereal grave keepers of the Carrion god would want nothing more than to add to this assembly.

You can choose on the fly if your party is attacking to kill or stun, the consequence of which is yours to decide. Killing hostile combatants is less risky, but they could be resurrected into ghosts if a keeper is near. Stunning will knock out your enemy for 24 hours, and if that enemy is a bandit or grave robber, you can report them for coins in your purse, though Exile Island will get more populated with each turn-in. Stunned criminals will only stay stunned for so long, and you’ll need to reach a local fort or village to tell another guard to send a wagon and pick up your purse.

The list of criminal acts is something worth keeping in mind before exacting justice, and your characters need to bear witness, otherwise unless your characters have proof of the crime they’ll be the ones committing it when assaulting.

Farmsteads and holdings from various other Houses from Minorev have settled the island under the Pavura's governance, and will have various problems that they wish someone would help them deal with. As a guard you’ll find quests and duties within to attend to. Your relationship with towns is unique to each, and if the reeve commends you it could come with fine rewards.

Most recent is 2021's Paradigm Shift (which has overviews and tutorials in that link). Every year since 2018, this AI has become more devious -- and the factions facing it, subordinate to it, or simply neighbors with it grow more numerous and more lifelike.

The premise is simple: you've already lost the war. The entire galaxy belongs to other factions, mostly the AI. You are starting with one small planet in a sea of hostile territory, and you must endeavor not to draw too much notice from the AI. Your job is to carefully evaluate targets, strategically expand your territory just enough to run your fleets and defensive networks, and then strike at the heart of the AI(s) when you are ready.

AI War 2 is meant to be both accessible and deep. Early 2021 has seen major improvements to make the midgame easier to get into for new players, plus a more forgiving Science system and a much more powerful Hacking system. Q3 2021 is going to introduce a new Expert mode for those who want the more extreme sort of challenge that comes from having elements of permanent loss, more reasons to hold disadvantageous positions, and so on. Which mode you choose to play will always remain a personal choice.

Unexpected Technical Advancements
In the twelve years since we coded the first AI War, we've made a lot of improvements to our simulation engine, which is now running on top of the Unity 3D engine. However, AI War 2 has presented some truly unique technical challenges, mainly involving running insane amounts of AI and simulations in a massively parallel fashion. We've been able to harness the power of modern multi-core processors to a degree that most game simulations cannot, and our challenge from 2020 onward has been to bring that into the multiplayer realm. While multiplayer currently remains in beta, it is also a bit of a technical showcase.

Mod support is heavily embraced by this game, and having mods be multiplayer-safe (or have deep access to change parts of the core simulation in general) is not typical for games as a whole, let alone this genre. We've managed to make multiplayer a self-repairing affair, which is beneficial both for playing with friends on different OSes and hardware, and for having most mod-code mistakes be corrected by the core game.

The AI has dramatically improved in intelligence every year since 2018, and your framerate is also decoupled from your simulation performance. You can have a great machine with 120fps during heavy battles, and a friend at 30fps and you both stay in sync and the actually simulation doesn't slow down. You can speed up and slow down the simulation without any extra load on your CPU, which is very helpful to avoid any boring waiting around, and you can pause at will.

The interface respects your time by automating things that you would do the same 95% of the time anyway. For that other 5% there are indeed advanced features such as placing spy nanites, tweaking or disabling the rules of automation, or redesigning your fleet compositions as much as you want. Hacking is one of the most interesting ways to customize your existing fleet leaders, as you can give them unusual upgrades or even transform them into new versions of their class.Streamlined, yet deeper.
Sometimes when a sequel says it's "streamlined," it can really mean "dumbed down." And there are indeed fewer tiny choices to be made in some areas here: you don't have to decide how to wash each dish; you have a dishwasher. And it's a good thing you do, to be honest, because the rabbit hole of complex and confounding scenarios goes as deep as you want it to.

If you want to play at a level approaching Expert, you'll need that spare brainpower to design your fleets, manage multiple fronts at once, juggle offense and defense, and continually revise your empire design to suit your needs as the campaign unfolds. If you want to play more casually, that is absolutely okay as well, and the game can be much more forgiving while still providing a lot of interesting macro choices.

There's too much to memorize (but tooltips are always right there, anyway), and there's always an unfamiliar element. Clicking fast won't help you. To win the AI War, you'll have to improvise, adapt, and use your wits.

As it should be.How About Some Highlights?

• Many optional factions, each with their own goals and strategies, create a living galaxy.
• The fleets system gives you tons of ships that can be organized and distributed with a minimum of fuss.
• Science upgrades are simple to manage, but provide many options on how to approach any given campaign based on your preferences and what you find in the wild.
• Hack the enemy, hack your allies, hack yourself. Hacking points are limited, but extremely powerful ways to get more ships or capabilities, directly weaken enemies, or even steal from enemies.
• A ton of map types, and with a lot of sub-options to make them even more varied.
• Outguard can be hired as a way of deploying surprise mobile forces whever you need, and many factions can be allies.
• Warden, Hunter, and Praetorian Guard sub-fleets of the AI provide for new challenges (and sometimes opportunities) in how both you and the AI interact with each other.
• Crazy moddability, with many levers available in easily-accessible XML. A number of player-supported mods are shipped directly with the game (defaulting to off) so that you always have the latest version of them and don't have to hunt for them to download them.

• More approachable gameplay, but with a rabbit hole that goes as deep as ever.
• More to do, in terms of moment to moment gameplay and choices. More to find, more to conquer or be conquered-by.
• Polished gameplay mechanics, representing everything learned from first game’s six expansions (plus three years of development on this sequel).
• Trimmed fat: repetitive boring tasks have been automated or streamlined, but more options than ever have been added for you to customize things when you want to. Our goal is never to waste your time, but always have an array of interesting challenges for you to pursue at once.
• Redesigned UI that gives you a ton of information and power right when you need it.
• 1.5 hours of new music added to the 4.5 hour included score from the original game.

Release Description:

Rise Eternal starts with Kastus digging himself out of his own grave and returning home to find Faey forces under Stoutheart banners occupying what used to be his land. The village is burned. His family… you’ll find out soon enough!

Across four connected missions, you’ll see what became of the Barony of Loth after Cecilia’s victory. You’ll work alongside other Loth Wielders, push back against those who put your people in chains, and learn more about how the Unseen Society continues to fight for the return of the good old days.

Kastus also brings a new skill, Call the Faithful. It steadily adds more Risen to your ranks. If you put your back into it, you can end up fielding a frankly unreasonable number of undead. The Risen aren’t the strongest unit in the Loth roster, but they do get the job done.

We estimate that playing the 4 story missions will take you around 10 hours.
