Season 1, Episode 03 – “Antarctica”
Julia Bradbury journeys to the edge of the world to experience the beauty and brutal conditions of Antarctica as she explores its icy landscapes and extraordinary wildlife – after crossing the Southern Ocean, Julia navigates through thick and jagged brash ice in bays framed by snow-covered peaks. On a whale-spotting mission, penguins and seals surround Julia’s boat before a pod of humpback whales finally breaks cover to breath and feed in the bay – donning snowshoes to trek over challenging terrain, she then learns about the harsh reality of life on the ice. During an emotional overnight camp in the stunning Paradise Bay, Julia reflects on her life, family and health – studying the colours and shapes of the icebergs at close quarters, Julia then experiences the raw power of nature as a giant iceberg splits in two and crashes into the ocean just a few metres away, a dramatic end to an extraordinary journey.
