It’s the second heat, and five brand new young cooks roll their sleeves up to face culinary superstars Poppy O’Toole and Kerth Gumbs. Facing the kitchen is a midwife from Swansea, a mechanical engineering student from Dunstable, a retirement village carer from West Bridgford, a food and hospitality student from Streatham and a lash artist from Tower Hamlets.
The judges want to see the cooks’ personality on a plate, one plate that tells them exactly who they are as a person and a cook. Does all of the social media hype and youthful energy in the kitchen truly spell a delicious plate of food? The battleground is once again set for the young cooks from all walks of life to put their heart on a plate and prove that they have what it takes to edge closer towards the Young MasterChef trophy.
For three cooks, it’s delight, as they will progress to the next round. Unfortunately, for two of them, it’s the end of the road.
